Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has joined the list of
only few companies that have decided to heavily invest in renewable energy. The
list only comprises of elite companies such as Wal-Mart, Ikea and Google as
Microsoft tries to power one of its largest Data centers. This move could be
beneficial to the company as it will essentially result in reduced cost of
running the business through reduction of power bills. Microsoft has already started the investment by committing a 20 year clean energy purchase plan from one
of Texas largest wind farm which has an output capacity of 110MW. The
Construction of the wind farm that is being carried in Texas will come to a
full conclusion in 2015. This is a viable move as the cost of 1MW/h has
declined from a high of $70 in 2009 to a low of $40 this year alone. Read more.
